Mt. Fuji

On Saturday, Adam and I went with a group from base to climb Mt. Fuji.  We got really lucky with the weather and it stayed clear until about an hour from the bottom when the clouds came rolling in.  We got some great views, made it up in about 4 hours and had time to walk the trail around the crater at the top.  It was unlike any other hike we have ever done.  It is about 12,200+ ft. high.  There are tons of people trying to hike it that you have to hike in a line at some points.  there are a lot of manmade steps, huts and stations/"hotel" along the way.  at the top, there are people selling trinkets and you can buy a $6 beer or a $5 bottle of water.  We had a great time and it was so nice to get back to our hiking roots and climb it together.  I did learn a valuable lesson, if you have boots in storage for several years, you might want to test them out before hiking up the tallest mountain in Japan!
